Friends,
As you know we had very good news last week when the Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund granted €4.6 million for the Clubhouse Redevelopment Project. This was fantastic news for Dalkey United, our friends and neighbours Cuala and the wider community in the area.
We were delighted with the support we received from local politicians as well as DLRCC.
We were also heartened that all politicians noted that while the clubhouse will be a fantastic amenity, we still need access to pitches.
The Dalkey United committee has met regularly with politicians on the subject of pitches. If any parents or our older players wish to raise the matter with them during this election campaign, we would suggest asking if they can ensure Dalkey United will have access to the next all-weather facility developed by the council, possibly at Woodbrook College. Despite repeated requests, the club was unsuccessful in gaining any access to Beckett Park in Cherrywood so we would hope to be successful the next time.
As a club, we have nearly 700 playing members, the Academy is expanding and our head coach Franco this week began providing community coaching in the local schools. An all weather pitch would allow us to welcome all those who want to play for Dalkey United in this sports mad community. As politicians begin to look for all our votes, we don’t think that is too much to ask.
Thank you for your support,
Dion Fanning, Chairman
