I wish to update you following my recent message regarding the reopening of the Large Scale Sports Infrastructure Fund and its implications for the Clubhouse Redevelopment Project. As a condition of the LSSIF application, a new, independent financial review of the cost of the project was undertaken which has resulted in an updated projected cost of €8.4m for the redevelopment, from €6m in October 2022, with the likelihood that costs will continue to rise. In light of this, Cuala, who would be responsible for 77% of the project costs, have decided that they cannot pursue it any further, a decision which is supported by the Dalkey Utd Committee.
While this project remained under consideration, we held off on any material expenditure on our own Clubhouse. Now that the project has been shelved, we will be looking at works to the Clubhouse to make it more usable for our players and members.
Meanwhile, getting access to more pitches is the key issue facing our club. Please remind any local council candidates you encounter over the coming week that Dalkey United, a community based club with 700 male and female players in our Academy and on our 35 teams, only has access to two full sized pitches, Hyde Park and Shanganagh Cliffs and shares Hudson Road with Cuala. We need more!
Thank you.
